Introduction
Real change first begins with you. Most people have spent a great part of their lives believing certain things and behaving in particular ways. The first step to changing your life begins with changing those particular thoughts and behaviors that have not served you well. This is not an overnight occurrence. You will start by taking little steps and making small adjustments that will create a permanent change over time. Stick with the steps provided here and you will be able to create the change you desire.
START HERE
Step One: Positive Thinking
“Dare to change the entire structure of your thinking if you wish to see a change in your life”. ~Santha Mathe
The first step in changing your life is to recognize the thought patterns or the self-talk that you have learned over the years. Think about the things that you say to yourself on a regular basis. Are they mostly positive or are they mostly negative? Most people say things like “Nothing ever works out right for me.” “I'll never get a raise, job promotion, more vacation time, etc.” “I'm always broke.” “I never win anything.” Believe it or not, your thoughts have a profound effect on your life! Your first assignment is simple; write down the things you frequently say to yourself on a daily basis. What do you say to yourself about your finances? Your relationships? Your job? Your appearance? How others treat you? Feel free to work on just one area at a time.
STOP! Do not go on until you have completed your first assignment.
Now read what you have written and consider the fact that you create what you think! Isn't that frightening? Go ahead and change those statements to positive statements now. Think about what it is you want to see in your life, NOT what you don't want. And don't worry if you don't believe what you are writing. That isn't important yet. Here are some examples to help you:
CHANGE: I never win anything. INTO: I always win.
CHANGE: My boss hates me. INTO: I have a great relationship with my boss.
CHANGE: I don't have anything. INTO: I have everything that I need.
As Buddha once said, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought”. Your next assignment is to read your new statements out loud and with conviction two times a day for the next 30 days, then twice every other day for the next 30 days, followed by once per week for the following 30 days. The more feelings you put behind the words, the more powerful the effect. If you are faithfully doing the activities outlined here, you should find that you have replaced your habitual negative thoughts with positive ones on a subconscious level by the end of three months time. And don't worry about slip-ups or bad days. It happens to all of us. The key here is to not stay stuck in those negative thoughts. If you find yourself caught up in negative self-talk and you're having trouble changing your inner dialog, we recommend any these activities to help you get back on track:
- Listen to some upbeat music, even dance to it (if you have the opportunity to do so)
- Chat with a friend who can help bring you out of your slump.
- Watch a comedy or listen to one (podcast). We recommend any of the Whose Line Is It Anyway on www.youtube.com Laughter is the quickest way to change your mood and your thoughts.
- Engage in an intellectually stimulating activity; soduko, a crossword puzzle, Bejeweled 2 (or other similar games), etc.
- Exercise for 15-30 minutes.
It is recommended that you do some form of meditation daily for the first 90 days of this program. Meditating helps you to reprogram your thoughts on a more subconscious level, which in turn will have a more profound effect on your thought patterns.

REVIEW OF STEP ONE
- Make a list of the negative things you say to yourself on a daily basis.
- Rewrite the previous list by changing the negative statements to positive statements.
- Read the new list out loud and with conviction two times a day for the next 30 days, then twice every other day for 30 days, then once a week for the next 30 days. If you find after 90 days your thought patterns have not improved, use the guided meditations suggested in the podcasts section that deals specifically with positive/negative thoughts. We recommend that you do these meditations once a day.
